Good to be able to see the Waitrose representative and hear what they have to say.. they seem very reasonable and open to suggestions..Important story for the town.

Can't wait for a larger sized convenient supermarket & petrol station! The queues at Tescos all the way into Clyde street are ridiculous. I go to Dumbarton & Drumchapel for food because the selection in Helensburgh is too basic & dearer on alot of products (particularly items like pet food & toiletries). I welcome more variety & an extra petrol station! A new supermarket will encourage me to shop locally & this in turn will make me use smaller shops to that I normally bypass. I feel Helensburgh needs to evolve into the 21st century like everywhere else & be fit for purpose for the people that live there!

I'd like an Aldi!

We should welcome new business to the town, more money generated and more jobs opening. Helensburgh needs a refresh and this would be a welcome start in my opinion!

The local council should bring more up market shopping into Helensburgh the town is still living in the past, and residents have to travel to glasgow to shop for things.

Unfortunately, I will still drive to Dumbarton for my shopping if Waitrose comes to town. It is really expensive, I lived next to one down south for nearly ten years and I shopped elsewhere then also. This can't be good for Helensburgh, we already have a reputation for being expensive. The quality might be there but we now have a couple of good deli's filling that role. That's a no for me.

The town centre is dying anyway (more charity shops, anyone?). If this is done right it could be the CPR the town needs, bringing customers into Helensburgh, and discouraging residents from making the journey to Dumbarton or Clydebank. And once people are here, the buck goes to the existing town centre traders to figure out how to attract them into the town centre - which should be easier than it is at the moment! This consultation exercise is the wrong way round. If the town is not just to survive but to grow, Waitrose shouldn't have to avoid treading on people's toes, the existing traders should figure out how to make the most of the opportunity of having more customers on their doorstep. This means significantly changing what they do at the moment.

Helensburgh does not need a Waitrose. Its too expensive, yes they do a price check with tesco however they dont stock the same ranges.( product sizes etc) Its equivalent to a marks and spencers food store. If your expecting a morrissons or tesco equivalent you will be extremely disapointed. Also Waitrose is a cooperative and mainly stocks its own brands at a premium. We already have one cooperative supermarket that people go to dumbarton to avoid why build another. Get a proper supermarket Sainsbury's or Morrissons.
