Residents in and around Helensburgh and Lomond are being urged to be on their guard against cyber-thieves targeting unsuspecting computer users. Following our story on bogus workmen, IT experts have issued a warning on a new computer scam involving cold callers phoning people and claiming to be from British Telecom or Microsoft, investigating a problem with the internet or computer. The conmen trick people into allowing remote access to their computers so they can reapir an non-existent fault. Once in, they steal highly personal data. We spoke to the senior technical director at Expertise Technology on Sinclair Street to find out more…

A project to restore iconic views on the West Highland Line has received formal recognition at the Network Rail Partnership Awards two thousand and eleven. The Friends of the West Highland Lines picked up the “Good Lineside Neighbour” for their project ‘Recovery of Iconic Views on the West Highland Lines’. The Friends campaigned for vegetation to be cleared on sections of the line to recover the views lost since steam was withdrawn in the 1960s, and by working with Network Rail they have transformed sections of the journey offering passengers stunning views of the Arrochar Alps and the viaduct at Glen Falloch.

The winning National Lottery ticket, which would earn its lucky owner eighty three thousand nine hundred and sixteen pounds, was purchased in the area for the 16th of July draw this year, and the ticket matches 5 numbers plus the bonus ball, and the winning numbers on that date were 4 9 13 15 18 40, and the bonus ball was 30. The lucky ticket holder has until 5.30 pm on January the 12 next year to claim their prize.
